Good Old Days

I've been thinking lately about how much I like to look at old pictures, like the ones at the top of my blog. How much I love movies like Anne of Green Gables, and any movie based on Jane Austen's books. I love older time periods, and I was trying to figure out why, and I think it's because times were simpler. And I think the women back then made better use of their time. There were no TV's or computers (neither of which I could give up). They wrote letters, visited with each other, went for walks . . . It just seems like those things could bring more satisfaction in life than a lot of things that we indulge in today.

When's the last time I went for a walk, just as a form of entertainment? To look at the flowers, or the different kinds of trees. Or the last time I sat down and wrote a letter to someone on pretty stationery?

So, I'm going to start something new. Each Monday I'm going to post just one thing I (and you, if you'd like to join me) can do to bring a little bit of the good old days into my life. This isn't some huge goal where I'm trying to build up habits, and get rid of modern things, because I like the modern stuff too. I couldn't blog here without my computer, obviously. It's just one thing each week, doing some of the old things that seem to be falling by the wayside. If you'd like to join me, feel free!

  1. I've tried to tell you about the joys of the olden days for a long time. :) That's why I so enjoy reading historical books, and why I enjoy old things, and doing things like making quilts. It makes me feel more connected to those simple and beautiful times.

  2. I think I lived some former life back then. Sometimes, I really wish I was there instead of here! Even without the tv!
