Jesus and Easter

We've been doing a lot of talk about Jesus this past weekend (at home and at church), with Good Friday and Easter and such, and Kevin's trying to wrap his head around it. Last night he was talking about Jesus on the cross, and he said "how did he get up there?" Then before I could answer, he said "they put a ladder up there and Jesus climbed up".

I was just thinking today how it's so hard to explain Jesus' death and his suffering for our sins to a 5 year old. Kevin keeps saying "Jesus died to save our sins". Which he thinks means he took our sins away, but then I told Kevin we still sin. That sinning is when we do bad things, but Jesus died so that we could still be with God, even though we sinned. I still don't think he gets it, but how do you explain such a thing to someone so young? You just can't.

I really enjoyed this weekend. We went to a Good Friday service, which was a really wonderful way to kick off Easter weekend with the right spirit. And the Easter service on Sunday was beautiful. There was more music than usual (more than a half hour, instead of the usual 20 minutes or so), and I loved that. One of my favorite songs that we sang for worship yesterday was Hosanna (by Hillsong United). Some of the lyrics are:

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me

Break my heart for what breaks yours
Everything I am for your kingdoms cause
As I walk from earth into Eternity

Happy Birthday, Kevin!

My sweet little boy turned 5 last Wednesday. Here he is with his birthday present. He is so into Power Rangers right now. It's so cute.
This was his birthday card. It was huge. And also, awesome.

Here's his birthday present. It's a Power Ranger that transforms into a sword. He likes it best as the sword, because then he can pretend to be a Power Ranger.

Ethan asleep

Nothing like falling asleep with a good book . . .

Living Planet Aquarium

Kevin had a preschool field trip to the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy today. Here are some pictures of the boys there.

Sick

Kids are sick, I've been sick, Troy says he thinks he's getting sick. That's our house for ya right now. Don't come visit.

Facing the Giants

The kids and I watched this movie today, and it's one of the best movies I've seen in a really long time. The acting had some rough patches, but the message and the heart that was in this movie far surpasses any weaknesses it might have.

If you don't really like football, don't let that scare you away from it. It's really not all about football, and there is a nice side story with the coach and his wife.

When you have a free night, make a run to the video store and rent this movie. It's absolutely wonderful!

Kaitlyn's outfit

Kaitlyn had a field trip today, and they were told to wear "business casual". Kevin kept me up most of the night last night, so I slept in, and didn't get up until just before she had to go. She picked this outfit herself. There wasn't time for her to change before she had to leave. I call this look "homeless casual".

Ethan in the tub

Kevin decided to give Ethan ketchup while he was in his high chair (and I was in the other room), so I decided a mid-day bath was in order. Ethan looked so cute in the tub, with the sun coming in on him, that I had to take a picture.

Some stuff I bought

We went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond the other day, and while I don't really love that store (it's all too expensive), I did find a few things on clearance. And since I can never pass up anything with olives, I had to buy it.They had enough for me to buy a set of these plates, but then I thought I didn't really need another set of plates. I've got probably 4 sets already. So I just bought the one to use as a display plate.

I was too lazy to take this out of the box to take the picture, but you can tell what it is. It actually looks neater than what the box shows, so use your imagination, and picture something extra cool. I'm not sure what I'll use it for, since I don't do appetizers often, but it could just be used for decoration too.

I bought a couple of these bowls. They only had 2 left. I was thinking I could put something in them, and use them as decoration, but I'm not sure what to put in them. Any ideas?

Here's a picture of my new softball jersey. I have weird elbows. That's all I have to say.

To offset the going crazy . . .

Since Troy has been working so much, there are days when I've actually thought it might be a good idea to carry me off to the nuthouse. And as nice as the peace and quiet of the nuthouse sounds, I'd kind of miss my freedom. So, I decided this weekend I was going to do something, because I had to get out of the house. Had. To. So I asked my parents if they'd watch the kids overnight on Friday and made a reservation at a Bed and Breakfast. I don't have any actual pictures of us at the Bed and Breakfast. And seriously, do you want to see those kind of pictures? I don't think you do. But below are the pictures the website has of the room we stayed in. The shower and toilet area are completely open to the room, but since Troy and I are a bit past the point of modesty with each other, we were okay with that.

We had dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory, and it was absolutely delicious. I'm so glad we were able to do this, and I think Troy needed a break too. Thanks Mom and Dad for watching the kids.

And then tonight I'm going out with my friend Christy for dinner and a movie. Both of us needed a girls night out, so we're taking one. Hopefully by the end of this weekend I'll have done enough to preserve my sanity for the coming week.

Cute Bebe

My baby is awesome. I really like this kid, and have decided I'll probably keep him. Here he is eating a ring pop, which is not the best treat for a 1 year old. But if he doesn't mind sucking on the hairs after he drops it, who am I to take it away?

In other news, Ethan turned on the TV, to the spanish channel, I've got the remote about 6 inches away from my hand, but yet I find myself too lazy to turn it off.

I am crafty-- ha ha

I made this at MOPS today. I enjoyed it much better this time than last week. We still had a speaker, but I don't think it lasted as long, and I guess it was more interesting for me. Anyway, where the picture is, it's metal with magnets, so you can put any picture you want there, and change it up when you want. I thought it was pretty cute. And also, easy, because contrary to the title of this post, I really am not crafty. At all. Not even a little bit.

We had the option to paint it black, brown, or red. Even though I have a whole lotta black, I decided to go with red, and I'm really glad I did. It's a nice shade of red.

Boys

Here's my boys, happy for the moment. They like to play on the computer chair, or anything that's not theirs, for that matter. Toys? Not so much.

Further example . . . See the Burt's Bees hand cream? That's not a toy. In Ethan's opinion, the bathroom drawers are his toyboxes.

Kevin is my hugger. Except he needs to stop growing, cause it gets harder and harder to cuddle the bigger they get.

This was a fun day. I think with Troy being gone so much, the kids are really feeling it. We've had some hard days.

This was taken the same time as the above picture.

Ethan didn't want his pajamas on. Even though if I walked around in my underwear, I think I'd freeze. Apparently, he's got enough fat on reserve (as if I don't).

Heroes

We have Netflix, and they have a "watch instantly" feature, where you can watch some movies right on your computer. So I've been watching the first season of Heroes. It seems like I always come into shows late, and never watch them while they're on. It's really interesting, although I'm not sure if I like how every single week is to be continued. In a way, it's nice because it's long one really, really long movie. But then sometimes I like TV shows that you can catch here and there and not be lost.

Anyway, I've spent a lot of time watching it, because I want to finish season 1 before I cancel Netflix (which will be tomorrow, I think). We are not very happy with Netflix. Overall, it's cheaper to get movies from the library (if we can avoid late fees), and then sometimes Redbox.
