Today, in preparation for Christmas, I was reading in John chapter 1. Verses 1-14 are among some of my favorites. Actually, the whole book of John is my favorite book of scripture.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The reason I love these verses so much is they give us an awesome picture of Jesus Christ. He became flesh, and dwelt among us. I can't even put into words the magnitude of that, and how thankful I am! This scripture also says that if we receive him, and believe in his name we become children of God. Now, if that's not the coolest thing ever, I don't know what is. :) I just love all of this! These are the things that bring me joy!
I love these verses too. Saying Christ is the Light gives such a good visual for me.. thinking about how we are in darkness without Him. When I am in the dark for a long time, I feel lost, and it's the same with my spirit. I also love these verses for the one that says: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. Those verses give me a little insight into John, and his humility, and love for the Savior. It also teaches me that I should be a witness of the Light also.
