Why do I never luck out getting kids that start sleeping through the night early, and are good from then on? Last night Ethan woke up at 11:30, and I didn't get him back to bed until 2:15. And that was putting him in bed awake, just praying that he'd not cry (again), and go to sleep.
After that you'd think he'd sleep in a little bit, but noooooo. He was awake before 6. And I'll tell you what. I like sleep. I mean, I really, really like sleep. I'm a night person, so sometimes I stay up really late, but once I'm in bed, that's it--I don't want to get up again until morning. And even then, I'd rather morning not start until about 9 or 10, but nowadays sleeping until 8 is sleeping in for me.
So, even though I really enjoyed sitting and cuddling with Ethan in the rocking chair last night, I would like to think we could do the same thing during the day. I don't even have anything clever or witty to write, because I'm just that tired.
And also not especially clever or witty at the best of times.
I feel the same way about sleep, luckily I have kids who like to sleep in as well. It probably helps that I let them stay up until 9:00, but oh well. It's been hard to get up in the mornings to get Thomas off to school, but once I'm up I'm up. If Jacyn slept in her crib all night I would be up with her all night, so that's why I let her sleep in my bed with me, hee, hee.
ReplyDeletelet him cry himself to sleep. if you rock him to sleep then put him in his bed when he wakes up he will need your help again. eyeryone wakes up during the night an average of 4 times and it's an important skill to know how to soothe yourself so you can go back to sleep. the only way he will learn in by doing it, thats what i finally had to do with allston because he was gettin up 2-4 times a night. it took a couple weeks but now he sleeps at least until 9 am and he goes down in between 8:30-9pm. it has made me a better patient mom and allston is a lot more independant
ReplyDeleteWe've definitely tried that. In fact, a good share of the night last night was letting him cry himself to sleep. The problem is, he's so stubborn he won't do it. He'll cry for hours. And then you think, just let him keep doing it, he'll get it eventually. Sadly, no.
ReplyDeleteStudies show that you should buy a small guest house that would fit in your backyard, and then go sleep there when you have a bad night. 4 out of 5 adults wish they could have their own sleeping house.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the 4. And what's wrong with that 5th adult? :D The little house would have to be big enough for both Troy and me.
ReplyDeleteUgg, I hate not getting sleep through the night. Luckily, I have had pretty good sleepers. Paige and Morgan have been the hardest, but they are finally sleeping now. So, here is to better nights that will hopefully come soon!
