This book started off very slow, and I was quite bored. So bored, in fact, that when I got to my usual 50 page quitting point, that I was about to quit. I pushed through, though, because I really love to read about Chinese culture, and I had heard so many good things about this book. I'm glad that I continued, because I think it turned into a very good story. Not an amazing, must read book, by any means, but still quite good. I enjoyed the characters, and the story, although hard and sad to read at times, was well written. I don't know that I'd read any more by this author, but I think I would recommend this book to others.
